HELP
VIEWING MENU ITEMS
PROBLEM
Your Internet browser does not properly display the drop-down
menus when hovering over the horizontal menu located below the "Prescott
Computer Society" masthead on most pages of this website. Instead of
numerous links appearing below the visible menu only an empty white box is
displayed. Another error condition manifests itself by inaction when
you hover or click on a menu item such as Home, Resources, etc.
So that you might continue to enjoy our website before dealing with this issue,
here's a link to our website map where you may
visit other pages without having to use the menu system.

FIXING THE PROBLEM IF YOU'RE USING FIREFOX AS YOUR BROWSER

FIXING THE PROBLEM IF YOU'RE USING INTERNET EXPLORER 8 (IE8) AS
YOUR BROWSER
There are several possible solutions to this problem. Solution #2
(Compatibility Mode) is probably the easiest to apply although the problem
is only being fixed on a case-by-case basis. Installing all updates is
suggested first for your own safety while surfing the Internet.
Solution #1
Make sure that you have downloaded and installed all updates from Microsoft. This
problem is a known issue in IE8 and it has been the subject of several Hotfixes
(updates from Microsoft). As a result, it should no longer be a problem if
the update process has been properly completed. However, for a variety
of reasons, the update process often fails and certain updates are never
installed.
Solution #2
Run "Compatibility Mode" for this and other websites which do not display
their menus as
expected. After the application of Compatibility Mode to each such website, the
menus should display and work properly. A complete description of how to
use Compatibility Mode may be found at Microsoft's KB 956197 (Knowledge Base) article
here.
While this article considers itself to be "intended for advanced users" and other
"administrators", it is really a good explanation on how to invoke Compatibility
Mode using the techniques listed in Solution #1 or Solution #2. If you feel that you'd
like an even simpler approach, you might try the suggested link near the top of the
KB article to "self-help steps for beginning-to-intermediate computer users" or
go there directly.
Solution #3
Additional and more technical information regarding this problem may be found at Microsoft's website:
KB 962351 - Title: The pop-out
menus are not displayed when you use Internet Explorer 8.0 in Standards mode to
view an ASP.NET Web page that has dynamic menus
KB 969612 -
Title: Description of the Hotfix rollup package for ASP.NET 2.0: April 2009
KB 981201 - Title: A Hotfix is
available for ASP.NET 2.0 that enables support for extended protection
In spite of the listed title, this article actually describes a more inclusive Hotfix
which fixes this specific menu problem as well as other issues.
Solution #4
You can also simply switch over to Firefox (FF) - a perfectly good Internet
browser that can be run right alongside IE8 so you can test it out and see if it
meets your needs. FF is available
here for FREE and during its installation process it will copy over all your
IE8 Favorites so you don't lose a single link. There is no problem whatsoever to
have both IE8 and FF installed on your computer at the same time.
